Laparoscopic Gastric Plication

Laparoscopic gastric plication

Laparoscopic gastric plication is a procedure that restricts calorie intake as the sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass. Peer reviewed literature regarding the efficacy of this procedure is still limited. This procedure has been promoted recently due to its lower cost as there it does not require stapling. Restoration of the original anatomy is possible especially if this takes place within the first year postoperatively.

The main characteristics of the gastric plication are:
  • Τhe stomach is not removed
  • The fundus of the stomach and the lateral part of the stomach are plicated with sutures within the gastric lumen.

The average operative time is 1.5-2 hours, the average hospital stay is 1 day and return to work is anticipated in one week.
